almost 6 weeks

I apologize if sometimes this blog is all over the place and is incoherent…..it seems that my brain function is directly related to the amount of sleep I get each night.

I was disappointed to hear that sometimes it can take 4 months for babies to start sleeping through the night. But Justin and I remember that each sleepless night brings us closer to a long sleep filled one.

Klayton is going through his 6 week growth spurt and his first cold. His nose is congested and is almost always fussy if he is not eating (which is challenging when he can’t breath) or sleeping. I knew he would start wanting to eat every hour or so; but I’m also concerned that oversupply will become a problem again.
However he is becoming so much more active and alert. We now have music and story time along with tummy time and his other exercises. He loves listening to the brass instruments and he LOVES Dr. Seuss; I think he remembers “Oh Baby the Places You’ll Go” that I read while pregnant. He is also smiling at us! It has been amazing seeming him look at me and recognizes and then gets this goofy grin. I get the most smiles right after change him. I think it’s partly the super soft mutts that just came in the mail today; but he was giggling during the last 2 changing.

We are getting closer to his naming ceremony and hoping that we will see lots of family and friends for his special blessing. I only wish it would be warmer so we can be outside.

My mom came to visit; which is always nice. She witnessed the smiles for us; but did not receive one herself….maybe next time! I think she really liked playing with him and he loved the stand-ups and tummy time with bubka. She insisted that I get out of the house and let daddy babysit; we went to the library and it was agonizing. It was the first time in almost 6 weeks that I didn’t have him with me. She also had Justin and I go out for lunch. We had lunch and played duckpin bowling at the square. It was a blast and we didn’t talk about Klayton the entire time.

Okay now for more pictures.

Inital

By overwhelming demand, I’ve decided to follow Becky’s suit and start a blog so everyone can peek in at the newest Valentine.

Justin and I have been struggling with lack of sleep and adjusting to this little guy and have decided that new parents can function on 3 hours of sleep and we should stop trying.

Klayton was an angel for the first couple of weeks but because of my nipple infection and only nursing on my left I began to have an oversupply of milk and a forced letdown which has messed up his little belly. Just in case you don’t have any idea what I’m talking about, with an oversupply babies get too much of the foremilk which can cause excessive gas and having a forced letdown causes my milk to come very fast, too quickly and he gulps a lot of air. As you can guess his little belly hurts. Over the last couple of weeks we have worked together and he is getting much better.

He is five weeks old and starting to have some of a schedule; he was so fabulous last night, going to bed at 9:30 and then only waking up every 3 hours to eat and for a change until 9 the next morning. We are encouraged and hope this is a sign that a full night sleep is not too far off.

Klayton is a little muscle man and is getting stronger each day. He now holds his head up for long periods of time and looks from left to right. He mastered rolling from tummy to back on the 6th; no video of it yet. At his last appointment he weighed in at 10lbs 11oz and 22 ½ inches. Some of his newborn clothes are getting very tight.

Now for the pictures!
