Selected

Well so much has happened in the last week my heart is still racing.

The results of the board are out and it is official Justin is going to be an Air Force Officer! He was selected for Navigator or the new name is CSO-Combat Systems Officer. We are both extremely excited. It has taken a week for it to finally sink in, but we are blessed to have such a wonderful opportunity. Here is a link to the press release. http://www.rs.af.mil/recruiter-online/story.asp?id=123151694

He has to go through a final flight physical and be approved in order to get an OTS class date, which might not be until early 2010. We hope he passes the color vision part. If he does not, he will get to keep his OTS slot but will not be a navigator.

I am trying to remember off the top of my head the order of operation for Navigator training. All information is not set in stone, but more of a possible future for us. First he will go to OTS in Alabama for 12 weeks, then he has to get his PPL (private pilot license) which we think is in Colorado, then undergrad Navigator training in Pensacola Florida (where we will first join him), then air-frame training-WSO, EWO or General Navigator. After all that training he will get his permanent duty station depending on which plane he is assigned to. Unfortunately the OTS path is a lot longer and it will likely be a year or so before we move.

I did make the difficult decision to not return to one of my schools but in hopes to stay at the other one day a week. My principal was very amicable and understanding. She told me that she would list the one day but if there is no response she will be forced to list both and I would likely not return at all. Even though this is a frightening decision, I feel it is best for me. I do not like waking up dreading going to work and hating the place I work and the person I had become. I wanted to teach to make a difference but like I was told recently I am not a good fit. It was a memorable experience and I will treasure the times I enjoyed and the students I grew to love. I am scheduled to teach summer school for three weeks and then hopefully return to school one day a week to teach art on a cart and work with the after-care program while picking up a few hours at the library to even out my paycheck. I would really like to take one studio class this fall just for my own sanity.

We recently put our house up for rent again. Our current tenants will be moving to Chicago at the beginning of July. We have not really enjoyed being landlords, but it has not been a complete disaster. We had hoped that living with my sister and renting our house would save us more money; however other items have made it about the same. We plan to put it on the market soon; but hope we won’t have to take a huge loss.

Klayton loves geese. I’m not exactly sure where the obsession began, but when I am reading I love you as much book he can’t wait to get to the “Said the mother goose to her child, I love you as much as the endless blue sky” and will point and coo at the picture of the geese. When one is flying over head he always points it out. He has a goose beanie baby named Gracie. He also loves cars. He already has 3 hot wheels (one being a Tesla Roadster…..my dream car) that he carries around in his pocket. Laying on the ground he “vroom vrooms” pretending to drive. He says “Caaw” with a thick New England accent, which I think he inherited from Poppy.
Our new favorite family activity is going to the park were there is a stream and collecting pretty rocks to add to our family stepping stone project. He loves standing in the water, picking up a rock and throwing to hear the “plunk” sound. It seems that anything the involves water is always a hit. We love going to the Children’s Museum and playing with the water pools in playscape. We recently went to Katie’s graduation and the rent’s had their pool open; it took Klay a few minutes to adjust to the cold water but after a while it was difficult to remove him. We look forward to this summer when we can enjoy heat day in the cool of the pool…that one was for daddy *wink*
